Community Development Program (CDP) is an initiative of Government of Sindh to bring about improvement in the lives of ordinary people and mitigate poverty. The program is being executed through an independent and high powered Board under the Chairmanship of H.E. Dr. Shamsh Kassim Lakha. The composition of Board is self evident of the commitment which the Government of Snidh attaches to this initiatives. The program is being implemented through renowned Civil Society Organizations (CSOs’) using their expertise to bring about change in the development sector. Project Coordination Unit (PCU) serves as the Secretariat for Board and is entrusted to administer as well as monitor the program activities.
The program was initiated in 2008-09 with the allocation of Rs.500 million which has been enhanced to Rs. 3 billion in ADP 2011-12.
Thematic areas of the program include Education, Health, Water & Sanitation, Women Empowerment, Skill Development and Legal Aid.
Some 36 projects worth Rs. 609 million have been funded through Community Development Program so far.
